Level 1 - Beginners

Who it’s for

  • Absolute beginners

  • Dancers with little or no previous experience

What you will work on

  • All fundamental WCS patterns and several common variations

  • Basic timing and rhythm (6- and 8-count)

  • Footwork fundamentals, posture, balance, and weight transfer

  • Turns, pivots, and movement mechanics

  • Connection fundamentals: stretch, compression, frame, anchor, and basic lead/follow principles

  • Basic groove, partner awareness, and early improvisation skills

What you’ll be able to do

  • Understand basic timing and rhythm in West Coast Swing

  • Lead and follow comfortably with growing confidence

  • Feel at ease attending socials and inviting people to dance

  • Dance in a relaxed, enjoyable, and socially connected way

Our emphasis

  • Strong basics over “more moves”

  • Stretch and elasticity rather than arm-leading

  • Early musical awareness

  • Making class a weekly moment of healthy fun and progress

Level 1.5 - Foundation Building

Who it’s for

  • Dancers who want to reinforce their foundations

  • Students preparing to enter the Improvers cycle

  • Anyone wanting a structured refresher course

Entry requirements

Completion of the Beginners cycle or equivalent experience

Please note : no street shoes allowed, only dance shoes or socks

  • Reinforcing posture, balance, footwork, and weight transfer

  • Improving turns, pivots, and movement control

  • Developing clearer connection and lead/follow technique

  • Reviewing and refining all fundamental patterns

  • Enter the Improvers cycle with greater confidence

  • Attend the Improvers cycle in parallel without feeling lost or overwhelmed

  • Building strong foundations now to progress faster and more comfortably later

Level 2 - Improvers

Who it’s for

  • Dancers who know the basics but still lack consistency or confidence

  • Early social dancers

  • Students who successfully completed the Beginners cycle

Entry requirements

Students should already:

  • Know all the patterns of the Beginners cycle

  • Maintain timing fairly consistently

  • Be starting to integrate stretch, opposition and other connection principles into their dancing

  • Understand frame

  • Have basic slot awareness

  • Developing social dance comfort and adaptability

  • Adapt more easily to different dancers and music styles

  • Use a wider vocabulary of patterns and variations

  • Begin attending local workshops and events confidently

Level 3 - Experienced

This track regularly features classes taught by guest teacher Orhiane Dang, All-Star professional dancer from Paris. As it is designed as a year-long continuous training program, with a strong focus on technical excellence and artistic development, consistent attendance throughout the season is expected, including during periods between the guest instructor’s visits.

Who it’s for

  • Regular dancers with solid fundamentals

  • Dancers comfortable in most social settings

  • Social dancers seeking fluency, musicality, and personal expression

Entry requirements

Students should:

  • Fully meet the goals of the Improvers cycle

  • Have solid timing and lead/follow technique

  • Dance comfortably with different partners

  • Understand musical structure and adaptation

  • Begin expressing personal style and creativity

  • Musical phrasing and accents

  • Rolling count and advanced weight transfer control

  • Call & response

  • Styling and slot shaping

  • Adapting movement quality to different music genres

  • Advanced turning and spinning technique

  • Improvisation and social dance fluency

What you’ll be able to do

  • Feel comfortable at socials and international events

  • Dance fluently with a wide variety of partners

  • Adapt naturally to different tempos and genres

  • Create your own variations and develop personal style

  • Consistency and comfort in real social dancing

  • Deep musical connection

  • Personal expression and individuality

Many dancers remain at this level for some time — which is completely normal. This is our core social-dancing level and a major stage of long-term development.

Level 4 - Passionate

This track regularly features classes taught by guest teacher Orhiane Dang, All-Star professional dancer from Paris. As it is designed as a year-long continuous training program, with a strong focus on technical excellence and artistic development, consistent attendance throughout the season is expected, including during periods between the guest instructor’s visits. A maximum of four absences is permitted during the season. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Who it’s for

  • Highly committed dancers

  • Experienced social dancers active beyond the local scene

  • Competitors or aspiring competitors

  • Dancers ready to invest significant practice time outside class

Entry requirements

Entry by invitation or audition only.
Students should:

  • Demonstrate strong mastery of the “Experienced” skills

  • Adapt dancing clearly to musical structure

  • Maintain consistent technique and execution

  • Create genuine interaction and conversation with partners

  • Attend classes regularly and work independently

Level 5 - Competitors

This track regularly features classes taught by guest teacher Orhiane Dang, All-Star professional dancer from Paris.   • Established competitors qualifying for the WSDC Inter division

  • Frequent international dancers

  • Dancers wishing to refine performance (and pedagogy)

  • Advanced dancers deeply involved in the WCS community

  • 16 WSDC Novice points or higher

  • Single leaders or leader/follower couples only
